BGB131-BI
DCS BGB131-BI Side Burner Repair
Most common issues on this model
- Flame will not start after a wet night
- Burner cap rusted or warped
- Spark clicking with no flame
- Knob turning loosely
The BGB131-BI is a one-burner side burner for a 15-inch opening, part of the DCS BGB line and sold around 2005 to 2012. It is the kind of unit an owner builds into the counter beside a grill to keep a stockpot or a skillet off the main grates.
Because it sits in the weather, we begin with moisture. Water collects in the burner well, and a damp ignitor will click all evening without catching. If the well is dry and the spark is strong, we turn to the cap and ports, which rust and clog, and to the valve behind the knob.
A side burner this age may need a part that is no longer easy to find, and we would rather tell you that on the phone than after the visit. The quote is put in writing before we pick up a tool. Gas piping under the counter is for a licensed plumber.

Why does the spark click but nothing light?
Either gas is not reaching the burner, or the ignitor is wet and cannot light what gas there is. We dry the well, check the supply valve, and test the ignitor in that order.
Is rust on the cap a reason to replace it?
Surface rust is cosmetic, but a cap that has warped or rusted through changes the flame and should go. We compare the flame before and after cleaning to decide.
Do you service just the side burner, or the grill too?
Either one. A side burner has its own valve and ignitor, so we can repair it alone and leave the grill untouched unless you also want it checked.
