RGSC-305

DCS RGSC-305 Self-Cleaning Gas Repair

Most common issues on this model

  1. Bake igniter strength and valve opening
  2. Door lock motor engagement
  3. Mechanical clean timer
  4. Lock thermostat
  5. Clean relay

Five burners and a self-cleaning gas oven make up the RGSC-305, a 30-inch gas range and an older DCS model that still serves many homes. The name itself tells you the type: range, gas, self-cleaning. Its controls and ignition work from a 120-volt, 15-amp circuit. Color versions include RGSC-305BK, RGSC-305SS and RGSC-305WT.

Gas ovens depend on a hot igniter to open the valve, and an igniter that has weakened can glow without drawing enough current to let gas flow. That is our first test when the oven does not light. Self-clean depends on a mechanical clean timer, a lock thermostat and a lock motor, so when a cycle will not start or the door will not lock, we test those parts one after another, along with the clean relay.

We service the range, and any gas line or shutoff work beyond it goes to a licensed plumber. Older parts can be hard to get, so availability comes first, then a price in writing, and an honest word if the repair is not worth it. The label gives us the model and serial number before anything is ordered.

RGSC-305RGSC-305 questions
My oven igniter glows but the oven does not light. Why?

The igniter may not be drawing enough current to open the gas valve. We measure it and replace it if it is weak, rather than guessing at other parts.

Why will the self-clean cycle not lock the door?

The lock motor, the lock thermostat or the clean timer may not be doing their job. We test each of them before quoting a repair.

Does this gas range need electricity?

Yes. The ignition and controls use a 120-volt supply on a 15-amp circuit, so a power problem can look like a gas problem. We check the electrical supply as well as the gas side when the oven does not light.
