RGUC-305

DCS RGUC-305 Self-Cleaning Gas Repair

Most common issues on this model

  1. Clean cycle start and lock engagement
  2. Oven burner lighting speed
  3. Door lock release
  4. Oven igniter strength
  5. Five burner flames

Five burners and a self-cleaning gas oven make up the RGUC-305, a 30-inch gas range that is a legacy DCS model. Its successor in the family is the RGVC-305. The C in the name is the clue to what sets it apart from the plain RGU-305: a clean cycle with a door lock.

If the clean cycle will not start, we look at the door latch and lock first, because the cycle normally waits for the door to report that it is locked. If the door stays locked afterward, the lock motor or its switch may not have reset. For an oven that lights late, we move to the igniter and the burner. Finally we test the five cooktop burners for ignition and flame.

Older parts can be hard to find, so we check ahead of the repair and tell you plainly if a new range would be wiser. The gas line or shutoff behind the appliance is a job for a licensed plumber. You receive a written price first and 30 days of workmanship coverage. The exact model and serial number come off the rating label.

RGUC-305RGUC-305 questions
Why will my clean cycle not start?

The door often has to register as locked before a cycle can begin. We test the latch, then the lock motor, then the position switch, to find which one is not responding.

The door stays locked after cleaning. Can you open it?

We first make sure the oven has cooled, because the lock is meant to hold until it does. If it still stays shut, the lock motor and switch are tested.

How does the RGUC-305 differ from the RGU-305?

The RGUC adds a clean cycle with a door lock. The sizes and burner counts match, so the clean system is where our checks differ.
