RF15IL2
DCS RF15IL2 Ice Maker Repair
Most common issues on this model
- Water inlet valve and screen
- Drain line routing and slope
- Scale on the evaporator
- Door seal against dust and humidity
The RF15IL2 is a 15-inch outdoor ice maker electric unit with the door hinged on the left. That hinge side matters if it sits at the end of a counter run, since the door has to swing clear. It is an older DCS model, and we repair it.
Houston water is often hard, and scale builds on the evaporator and the inlet valve screen of any ice machine. Thin or small ice usually leads us there first. A drain line kinked behind the unit leaves the bin wet, and an outdoor setting adds dust and humid air that wear on the door seal. We check those before looking at refrigeration parts.
The right-hinge twin is the RF15IR2, and we tell the two apart on the label so the door parts match. Some parts for older ice makers are hard to get, so we confirm availability before the repair and say so plainly if the cost is not justified.

Error codes this model can show
What causes thin ice on this ice maker?
Scale on the evaporator or a partly blocked water inlet screen is the usual cause. We clean the screen, check water flow and descale the unit before looking at the refrigeration side.
Does the left hinge affect repair?
Only for the door parts and for how we reach the unit. A left-hinge door has hinge and gasket parts that differ from the right-hinge model, so we match them to the label.
Why is water pooling behind the unit?
A kinked or high drain line is common. We trace the drain from the cabinet, check slope and routing, and test the pump if one is installed.
