The RF15IR2 is the right-hinge version of the previous ice machine generation, a 15-inch outdoor unit whose left-hinge twin is the RF15IL2. It is an older model, but many are still making ice in Houston outdoor kitchens.
Most calls on this machine come from the water side. A clogged water valve screen starves the evaporator and gives thin ice. A drain line that was kinked when the unit was pushed back into the opening leaves water in the cabinet. Scale builds up in hard water and the ice gets thin or smaller than it should be. We check the screen, the drain and the evaporator before we touch refrigeration parts.

Why is my ice maker producing thin ice?
Scale and a partly clogged inlet screen are the most common reasons. We clean the screen, check the water flow and descale the evaporator, then watch a full cycle.
Could the drain line behind the unit cause a leak?
Yes. A kinked or crushed drain line holds water in the cabinet. We pull the unit enough to see the line, straighten it and check the slope or pump.
Is the right-hinge model different from the left-hinge one?
The door swing and its parts differ. The door-swing opposite is the RF15IL2. The ice-making system is the same family, but we match door parts to the label.
